War in Ukraine: Russian forces advance in the north, Ukrainian gains in the south

Heavy explosions reported in Sloviansk

Heavy explosions were reported in the eastern Ukrainian city of Sloviansk on Monday, according to local officials. The explosions were reportedly caused by Russian shelling, and there were no immediate reports of casualties.

Prosecutor General Kostin reports on shelling

Ukraine's Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova said on Monday that the Russian shelling of Sloviansk had damaged a residential building and a school. She said that her office was investigating the incident as a war crime.

The shelling of Sloviansk comes as Russian forces continue to make advances in the north and north-east of Ukraine. Russian forces have also been targeting Ukrainian positions in the south, near the city of Kherson. However, Ukrainian forces have made some gains in the south and have recaptured several towns and villages.

The war in Ukraine has now been going on for over four months, and there is no end in sight. The conflict has caused a humanitarian crisis, with millions of people displaced and thousands killed.
